SvN was hired by the City of Markham to prepare a Gateway Streetscape Concept Plan and Implementation Framework for a ‘"gateway" into the Rouge National Urban Park. The Gateway is envisioned to seamlessly connect urban public spaces along Highway 7 and the Cornell community with the park facilities of the Rouge National Urban Park, including potential visitor opportunities extending to the park’s east limits and the Hamlet of Locust Hill. The Gateway Streetscape Concept Plan will create a unique, celebratory and visionary space that reflects the significance and character of the Rouge National Urban Park.
The Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP) is Canada’s first national urban park, the park size is about 7,900 hectares that are located in Toronto, Markham, Pickering and Uxbridge. Approximately 3,475 hectares of the RNUP will be located in Markham. The park is 19 times larger than Vancouver’s Stanley Park, and 23 times bigger than New York’s Central Park.
