48th and Cambie

Location
Vancouver, BC
This 10-storey rental building at 48th and Cambie Street adds a contemporary signature to the neighbourhood. The transit-oriented development is situated adjacent to the 49th/Langara station with significant setbacks off Cambie Street, due to the underground Canada Line station. This space will be transformed into a public plaza flanked by retail spaces.
The building is treated in two contrasting elements to reinforce the dynamic massing and setbacks. Brick wraps around the base of the building and vertically up the southern façade while metal and glass are used to differentiate the other elevations. Following the City of Vancouver Cambie Corridor guidelines, the building steps back at various floor levels – to respond to future three-storey massing on the east side of the site and a five-storey streetwall along Cambie. This project is designed to achieve LEED Gold sustainability certification.
