The concept takes on the challenge of addressing the conflict in the perception of who ‘owns’ Leg-in-Boot Square by creating a threshold that clearly makes the Square a place all its own. Ideally, adLIBS would be a thin veil— a light ephemeral touch that delicately indicates to visitors that they are entering a new space. During the conceptual schematic phase, our team produced several iterations of perforated walls that divides the space to promote a functional and activated space. Visitors will enter the Square via a path between the walls, making a clear threshold between ‘there’ (the Seawall) and ‘here’ (the Square). All walls will be sheathed in Premium Pine Plywood that is 3/4in x 4ft x 8ft, painted with a graphic that creates an organization language for community communication of events that occur within the space.
