
Jonathan Tinney
Jonathan Tinney leverages over 20 years of experience as an urban planner and land economist to support innovative solutions for public and private sector clients. As Principal at SvN, he leads various planning and design projects, including urban policy, development economics, and transit-oriented development for the Ontario Line, a 20-year transit infrastructure project that will fundamentally reshape the city of Toronto.
Jonathan's approach leverages market dynamics to maximize public benefit while ensuring solid returns on investment. His broad experience in urban development, project implementation, and public engagement consistently leads to creative solutions for building better communities.
Before joining SvN, Jonathan served as Chief Planner for the City of Victoria, British Columbia, leading the city's development goals to become the most vibrant and equitable mid-sized city in Canada. He also held a leadership role overseeing development of UniverCity, an award-winning sustainable community adjacent to Simon Fraser University.
Jonathan is active with the Urban Land Institute and Lambda Alpha, and serves as adjunct lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University teaching urban policy. He has been a guest lecturer at universities in Canada, the UK, Denmark, and China on topics including economics of city building, sustainable community development, and affordable housing.
