Biodiversity Research Group
We are committed to advancing responsible and thoughtful design that fosters thriving environments, raises awareness of biodiversity loss and promotes regenerative systems within our projects. To achieve this, we develop tools and methods to encourage the inclusion of biodiversity at all stages of the design process.
SvN’s Biodiversity Research Group has created a Biodiversity Toolkit, a simplified reference document that explains conservation principles and provides definitions, links to references and tools for considering biodiversity in our office projects moving forward. The toolkit synthesizes four areas which are as follows:
- Site & Context: Historical and existing landscapes, scale, climate, environmental conditions.
- Habitat & Species: Landscape patterns, watershed, plant and animal species.
- Environmental Threats: Habitat destruction, species exploitation, contamination, invasive species and the effects of climate change.
- Biodiversity Strategies: Species protection, biodiversity management, water management and ecological maintenance.
