SvN, with the support of Parkin Architects, lead the North York General Hospital (NYGH) Campus Strategy and Plan, building on work established to date in the Strategic Capital Investment and Development Plan (SCIDP). In collaboration with NYGH, we reaffirmed the vision, mission, goals and objectives for the hospital campus that needs to grow to four times its current state, in light of a new and emerging understanding of physical/ spatial constraints, mobility and phasing opportunities and challenges. The Campus Strategy and Plan identified the highest and best use for the hospital campus development, and specific strategies to improve access and connectivity between multiple campus sites, enhanced identity and infill opportunities on the Sheppard and Bayview frontages, and an enhanced relationship with the natural heritage of the directly adjacent Don Valley.
We developed the Campus Plan and Strategy through engagement with Metrolinx, the City of Toronto and TRCA to creatively address the policy context's intent, leverage opportunities associated with the existing Leslie Subway and relocation/ reinvestment in a new Oriole GO Station. The Plan outlines a series of strategies for each of the four NYGH properties to present an evidence-based position to inform subsequent stages of approval via the Ministry of Health, as well as for possible future Official Plan Amendments and natural heritage and open space interventions.
