María is a Landscape Designer at SvN. She earned her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, where she received the Fellowship Award, the William Rock, Jr. Memorial Scholarship and was honour to be the 2020 LAF Olmsted Scholar for the University of Toronto. She also has a Professional Bachelor of Architecture Degree from The Andes University in Bogota.
In addition to previous work at small and large-scale architectural studios as Contexto Urbano in Bogota and Elias + and dtah in Toronto, María also established La Formaleta, a firm focus on the design of small-scale products in Colombia. Her research and projects have been centered on the connection between the ecological systems, the built environment and the communities from the macro to the micro scale, as well as creating an advocacy system for the rehabilitation of landscapes disturbed by illegal mining and promote landscape architecture as a profession in Colombia.
In her current role, María seeks to continue to use her comprehensive understanding between disciplines to develop designs and strategies that acknowledge and explore climate change and dynamic environments. She is an Associate Member of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA), working towards full membership.
