Ian is the Director of Special Projects at SvN. With over two decades of experience serving as an advocate for design excellence and vibrant communities, he has an established reputation for convening diverse players to achieve meaningful collaborations in architecture, urban design, educational programming and community building. An architect and urban designer, Ian has sat on various boards, selection committees and juries, and has taught at several architecture schools. He has also led a national professional association, a monthly architecture magazine and directed conference programming for major design exhibitions.

He holds degrees in architecture and urban design from the University of British Columbia and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he was awarded the Druker Traveling Fellowship. His achievements have resulted in the funding and management of design research, publications, exhibitions, competitions and consulting projects in both the private and public sectors. He has written for several publications, moderated and lectured on a long list of issues affecting communities, in addition to gaining expertise on public workshops, conference programming and continuing education.
