Amal is a designer at SvN. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo. Her graduate thesis work focuses on the dynamic and sustainable qualities practiced by Somali nomads in regards to their livelihood, communal spaces, and traditional practices that are under extreme threat from the effects of climate change. Her essay entitled “The Idea of Home and Belonging” won a Certificate of High Merit in the 2019 (RAIC) International Prize Scholarship competition. She also gained professional experience in architectural practices in Toronto, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Working on a wide range of projects and scales, from heritage & conservation, community design build, institutional and performing arts centres.
