May 19, 2020

SvN announces significant growth to its leadership team with the appointment of Sam Dufaux toPartner, as well as the introduction of Andrew Goodyear, in a newly developed Planning Lead role. The expansion of senior leadership is a reflection of SvN’s growing agility, with multi-disciplinary talent that have the ability to anticipate the challenges of complex projects, and ultimately guide work from conception to implementation with robust, context-specific solutions.

Prior to joining SvN in 2018, Dufaux spent a considerable amount of time workinginternationally, most recently spending ten years at New York’s WORK Architecture Company. As an Associate Principal at WORKac, Dufaux led diverse award-winning projects in New York (including the Kew Gardens Hills Library, Children’s Museum of the Arts, the Edible Schoolyards at PS7 and PS216 and Wieden+Kennedy’s offices) as well as the New Holland Island Masterplan in St-Petersburg, Russia and Nature-City in Oregon. During his tenure as Design Director at SvN, Dufaux has transformed the firm’s approach to architecture and urban design with a focused methodology that ensures design and research are at the core of the multifaceted practice’s efforts. In his role as Partner, Dufaux will continue to lead key firm projects across all scales with a focus on the integration of architecture, landscape and ecological systems for a post-carbon world.

Goodyear joins the SvN planning team from Toronto Community Housing where he was the Senior Development Director. With 18 years of land use planning experience in Toronto, the GTA, the U.S and England, as well as a diverse academic background including degrees in Commerce, Law and Planning, Andrew’s keen interest in the development and revitalization of urban areas is matched with a thorough understanding of supporting strategies and processes. The new Planning Lead role at SvN will see Goodyear focus on marquee firm projects including advisement for the Ontario Line.

“As the issues facing our communities become more complex and intricate, so too does our need to meet those demands with integrated, strategic and creative leadership,” says Drew Sinclair, Managing Principal, SvN. “These announcements reinforce our firm’s continued pursuit of social and cultural impact. Both Sam and Andrew have a rich history of contributing to the fabric of the communities in which they work and I look forward to witnessing the legacy they imprint on our cities as well as our team.”

Working in almost all major transit corridors as well as complex, mixed-use intensification areas across the GTA, SvN has a unique understanding of both the private market and public interests. SvN’s counsel is in high demand due to the firm’s unique ability to navigate and stitch together city building investments with market realities. The firm’s portfolio of work demonstrates the crucial ties between architecture, urban planning, landscape and urban design.
