As community builders, our aim is to develop the ideal stage for life and culture to unfold over time. That includes the planning, design and construction of great buildings and places, while helping to nurture the social, cultural and economic activities that bring those places to life.

Key Initiatives:

An Instagram competition that challenged the public to submit photos of positive change happening in their communities. The winning entries were displayed as a special exhibition at the Evergreen Brick Works, as part of the 2015 100in1 Day Festival in Toronto.

The Centre for Urban Growth and Renewal (CUG+R) is a non-profit research organization founded in 2009 as a partnership between SvN (formerly planningAlliance), E.R.A Architects Inc., Cities Centre, United Way Toronto, Toronto Public Health and the Highrise project, with the mission to engage in cross-disciplinary research initiatives fundamental to achieving livable and sustainable urban, suburban and rural environments.

City Building Initiative
On November 7, 2013, SvN (formerly regionalArchitects) hosted the City Building dinner for over sixty of our partners in the construction, real estate and development industries, at our headquarters in downtown Toronto. The dinner was held in support of Canadian Stage, a contemporary theatre company dedicated to the art of storytelling. We were proud to celebrate the future of an organization that continues to bring extraordinary national and international talent to Toronto, enhancing the quality of life in the city that we have all come together to build.

Lot 110
Every summer, the SvN parking lot becomes a lunch-time destination, hosting a rotating line-up of food trucks.

Ride for Heart
SvN’s cycling team rides in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In our first year we raised $5500 to support the foundation, through a massage clinic, a bake sale, and support from clients, consultants, friends, colleagues and family members.

Teaching + Education
Many of our staff frequently lecture at universities and public venues on subjects that include architecture, planning and urban design. Partners Drew Sinclair and John van Nostrand maintain close links with Canadian and international universities through teaching and research.
