Drew Sinclair speaking about Creative Partnerships with Church Real Estate

Drew Sinclair will be speaking on a panel about exploring creative redevelopment projects aimed at optimizing existing real estate within the faith community.

It is becoming an increasingly common tale: Churches are facing a challenging combination of factors including older and dwindling congregations combined with aging buildings with increasing deferred maintenance. Increasingly faith groups are seeing their real estate holdings as both a liability and an asset.

The speakers represent three different perspectives: the perspective of the Church, the developer, and a consultant.

Panel speakers include:

  • Bishop John Chapman, Anglican Diocese of Ottawa
The 9th Bishop of Ottawa with recent experience redeveloping a historic property downtown Ottawa.
  • Drew Sinclair, SvN
Licensed architect and community planner, with experience within the faith community.
  • Rodney Wilts, Windmill Developments
Partner in a real estate development company, with experience working with Churches and other non-profits in redevelopment strategies that maximize environmental, social and financial benefits.

The event will take place at Zibi, 3 Rue Eddy in Gatineau, Quebec, on Tuesday, 24 January 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Tickets are free – please register here.

We engage stakeholders in every planning process we lead. In complex cases, we facilitate a round-table dialogue process with key stakeholders to create a common understanding of issues, concerns and opportunities. We apply our technical expertise and to these consensus-based decision-making processes, identifying clear and actionable planning priorities. This innovative approach has been recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners, which awarded our work in Thompson, Manitoba with the Award for Planning Excellence, in 2014.
We undertake site analysis studies, from site scale up to secondary plan scales.  We work with developers and public agencies such as Build Toronto and Ontario Infrastructure and Lands Corporation to complete due diligence and Highest and Best Use Studies for their lands.
We provide feasibility planning, development advisory and approvals risk management for public and private clients. As an interdisciplinary team that contributes to the design and architecture of a project, we are able to identify risks in early design development and conceptual site layout stages. We help to shape and form the thinking on site layout and building design in a way that reduces and minimizes the amount of approvals required. We give our clients a comprehensive view of planning approval milestones within the project's life cycle, so they can anticipate the timing and resources required to support various approvals within the overall construction schedule.
We provide comprehensive support for approvals under the Planning Act that includes: the creation of clear, high quality documentation for amendments to official plans, zoning bylaws and building codes; producing planning applications and planning rationale reports; and representing our clients at Ontario Municipal Board hearings.
